A MESSAGE FROM RICHARD KAUFMAN
In 1985 I had the pleasure of publishing Gaffed to the Hilt in an edition of 110 copies.
Focusing on the unique ingenious gimmicked cards and creations of Don England, the book was written by Jon Racherbaumer and myself. The reason for the limited number of copies is that the book contains 15 handmade gimmicked cards and two gimmicked card cases.
It sold out almost immediately and has commanded prices up to $1,500 on the rare occasion when a copy sells on the secondary market.
I am pleased to announce the publication of Gaffed to the Hilt EXPANDED, which adds nine new tricks and contains 25 handmade gimmicks made by Kyle McIntosh and four printed gimmicks—all created from genuine USPCC Bicycle Rider Back stock. Eight of the new routines are by Don England and one comes from Kevin Kelly.
The enormous job of making the 5,000 gimmicked cards and card cases is nearing completion and Gaffed to the Hilt EXPANDED will be released in the third quarter of 2026. Each gimmicked card resides in its own glassine envelope, hand-tipped to a page in the book. Every book must be hand collated and assembled, and the pages inserted into a custom-made three-ring binder with foil stamping, handcrafted to resemble the first edition.
Only 200 copies of Gaffed to the Hilt EXPANDED will be available, sold on a first-come, first-serve basis. I do not run Kickstarter or Go Fund Me campaigns for my books—customers like you who preorder based on my 45-year reputation as a publisher of magic books make that unnecessary. This is an extremely expensive product to produce, and the price and exclusivity are commensurate with that.
The price is $1,000 per copy plus appropriate postage based on your location.
Sorry, checks or money orders are not accepted. Questions may be directed to me at moobooks@verizon.net or via private message on Facebook. As with the first edition, the gimmicks are made of a mixture of red-backed and blue-backed Bicycle Rider Back cards. It is not possible to order a book containing cards of only one back color.
